Shrewsbury Township supervisors have tabled an ordinance proposed by the York County SPCA that would limit the time dogs can be tethered outside.
Supervisor Sue Fox said while she agrees there is a need for a law that prohibits tying dogs outside for extended periods of time, the one suggested by the SPCA is “too broad, too vague.”
The law would prevent dogs from being chained outdoors 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The SPCA has asked municipalities across the county to adopt the law.
Some supervisors asked who will enforce the law; the SPCA has said it would assume responsibility for its enforcement.
